Can you give me some advice? I have this giant snake miniature from the board game Conan and I want to paint it. I am looking for pictures of cool-looking real snakes to use as inspiration.
(I want to post a picture of the miniature, but I am not allowed to post URLs in my first post, it seems. Instead I put a small version of it in my profile picture. More pictures of it can be found by googling "Conan board game giant snake".)
The miniature has an oversized head and a spiky back, so I need a snake with a large and colourful head. Possibly a variable viper or something similar. Can you suggest any snakes I can use as models/inspiration? Preferably with pictures.
I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this. Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome to ssnakess, sounds interesting. Perhaps a African Bush Viper, (Atheris squamiger) fits the discription? About as colourful as vipers get and nice rough scales. Or maybe Matilda's horned viper (Atheris matildae) One of my personal favourites, awesome rough looking vipers though little variation in the species. Rhinoceros vipers (Bitis nasicornis) are big headed, colourfull and horned. That's all that pops into my head right now, maybe one of this species will inspire you.

Thanks a lot for the reply! Those are some very cool snakes. I think B. nasicornis might be most suitable because of the large markings - the two Atheris will require incredible detail in order to do them justice.
