Python Reticulatus "Selayar Island' Adult breeding couple.

My beautiful adult breeding pair!

First of all Misa, she sure is Beautiful!! Sadly she isn't the friendliest, had to dodge some bites here and there. You can see her starting to back up to lunge in the pictures. She's quite alright once you get her out, just a bit flighty. She is freshly shed in these pictures! lighting isn't the best but still the best pictures I have taken of her so far.

And here's Kira! A true gentleman as always, even though he ate yesterday!

Nice pair! Is Misa smaller than Kira, or does she just look smaller because she's of a more delicate build?

Thx BSG, Misa is smaller than Kira. She is 11,5ft and 5 year old, Kira bulked up between his 5 and his 6th year and grew over a foot, he suddenly looked twice as big as he did when he was 5. She could easily still grow bigger/heavier as well. I never consider a retic fully grown before they're 6 years old at least.

Kira currently is nearly 14ft, turning 9 this year. On 'average' Selayars grow between 11,5ft and 15ft.. So at this moment, Misa is on the low end of the scale, and Kira closer to the far end especially being a male. Just shows, they're only 'averages' and there have to be animals going above and below to get those averages. Selayars are called dwarves, but like I have said many times before there are more sizes than just SD / Dwarf / Mainland. I would call these Large island forms myself, they can grow beyond the 'manageable for 1 person' size that a lot of 'dwarfs' are..

I plan to breed these once my snakeroom is finished, the female will turn 6 this year which is breeding age but just in case I get stuck with some babies, I want my snakeroom finished with a proper babyrack. Selayars might be dwarves but they aren't exactly the smallest type of dwarves, don't want to get stuck with any without proper housing.

Sounds good! Didn't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me. haha Kira is definitely a big male, it's why I don't really rely on sexes if I want a smaller snake. Averages may be average, but there's just too big of a chance for a male to get bigger than you expect.

That is absolutely true , males can top the scales as well! Though if you do want a smaller snake, I still think it's a good idea to get a male instead. But it's definitely not a given it'll stay smaller

If I couldn't handle the potential size of the species, I wouldn't get one in the first place, but that's just me.

I know they won't be available outside of your country, but I'm looking forward to seeing any clutches these two produce for you in the future. ^.^

They're both really beautiful Tsu. A tad too much snake for though. I wouldn't want to get tagged by one of those beasties.

Thx! And neither would I, they can cause some serious damage!

Thanks GyGbeetle, quite happy with my collection. Told myself I'd only go for snakes that have the 'wow' factor this time since I'm keeping my collection smaller.

Stunning Tsu. You know I'm a bit of a phillistine when it comes to wild types and Kira in particular is a gorgeous snake.

More pictures of this pair!!
