My young burm doesn't hide at all

Hey guys! It's me again.

So my 5 month old burm seems to be doing great, but he just doesn't use any of the hides I put in the enclosure. I have one in the warm side and other in the cold side and he always chooses to climb on to the wood branch and hang out there. He is almost never on the ground either, which is causing me some alarm because I never saw him drinking water.

I always heard young burms need to hide so that they can feel safe, so I am quite confused. Even though when I went to the breeder to pick him up, he was the only one of his brothers and sisters that was actually outside the hideout.

What do you guys think? Should I be worried?

Burms have arboreal tendancies when young before some size is put on. You also need not worry about him drinking as they can find water fine. As long as the hides are fairly tight fitting then dont worry if he uses them or not.

I have also heard about the arboreal tendencies, but that topic seems to divide opinions quite frequently, so I wasn't sure. The hides are adequate to his size, I believe.

I have a Jungle Carpet that thinks he's a green tree python... Might use his hide once a month... Go figure!

My albino burm female goes in spurts. She's getting quite girthy now, so she's not as agile, but for a time she would spend it trying to climb up her enclosure. We don't have a tree for her to hang on, but if we had she probably would've. Then she'll spend an entire week solid in her hide, only coming out when we enter the room, looking for treats. When she realizes we have none, nor have intent in picking her up, she'll hide again. And then spend 2 weeks completely out again. She has a very weird personality.

most young "Big" snakes like to hide up in the trees. retic, burms, etc..

once they hit about 5-6ft they kinda stop.

someone needs to tell that to my retics. They are about 6 feet now; granted they aren't that girthy. But they stay in their trees for as long as they can stand it. Sometimes I'll go in there to "mess" with them to encourage them to go into their hide

Haha. Than sometimes you have the ones that don't want to grow up. So they stay in the trees XD.

my female is about 6ft as well and when i get her out she climbs on top of my head and tries to stay up there. She only uses her hot hide for digesting her rat and shedding, most of the time she sleeps outside of it behind or on top of the hide.

buahahaha! these snakes need the memos about how to be a snake. My burm does that; she thinks she's a hat. I have a great pic of her sitting on top of my step daughter's head, trying to move up to the ceiling. I call it "singing the song of her people" pose

I've heard that burms have the funniest (and weirdest) personalities. Mine is a laugh a minute, when she's feeling well (when she's in shed, she just sits there until it's over. I feel so bad for her). She does the craziest stuff I've ever seen. My husband had a burm when he was younger, and he tells stories of what his burm used to do. They are so alert and inquisitive, and not always graceful, which makes for the funniest stuff. She's definitely a ham, let me tell ya. And she's been great with the kids too. I have a pic of her crawling through one of their sweaters, and poking her head out the sleeve to say hello.

Sometimes ill lay remy down on the couch, "she's my retic" then she will go to the wall from the couch. slither up the wall and she tries to reach the celling. Im just standing there saying hey dummy you cant attach yourself to the celling. but she tries anyways. Its so funny.

That's adorable. my retics still like to musk me. I'm waiting for their cuteness to shine through after the musking. They are (generally) great with my husband, although he ticked off the female yesterday and she bit him. I shouldn't laugh, but it was totally his fault, and now he's semi-mad at her and won't pick her up. She comes to me with no problems after the incident.
