Frantic!

So today is only day 2 of having my gorgeous little baby concentrics. My mom even thinks they are pretty cute! (And she pretty much hates all of my reptiles lol).

Well, after a loooong day (12+ hrs), I came home in a fairly good mood, was talking to mom as I did my nightly rounds in my reptile room, making sure temps are good, no 'bombs' to clean up, if anyone is shedding or has shed (one had left a shed this morning and sure enough, another this evening lol. Babies grow so fast!).

While doing that my mom asked to see the new babies again (she just saw them last night! Lol). So, we go to the tub and she points out "huh.. I only see two...where is the other one?".

I wasn't too worried, just jabbering away as I start to pull out the bridge, then a stump...then the floating plant...then everything....look under the floating basking area, in the filter... oh... my... gawd.... A BABY IS MISSING!!!

I actually suffer from some pretty serious anxiety and depression. My reptiles usually calm me down and keep me pretty grounded. Well...I went from having a good night to almost full blown anxiety attack.

I looked EVERYWHERE. Grabbed a flashlight, crawled all around the floor, looked under and behind EVERYTHING, almost in tears and hyperventilating and quickly overheating.

I go back to their tub where I had put the remaining 2 babies in the basking area where the mulch is and see one half burrowed in the mulch.....

Lightbulb! (Please say that with a Gru accent! Haha)

I pull both babies out and put them in a bucket then start digging through the mulch....wahlah! 3rd baby turtle! And boy did he get a talking to!

I write this little story from the floor of my reptile room as I try to calm myself laying in front of a fan cooling off. Apparently I had started to worry my mom as I wasn't walking straight and had turned a not so healthy shade.

All is better now and I know my babes are safe...but omg...scared the crap out of me!

Re: Frantic!

Wow! What a story. Glad he was safe and doing what turtles love to do. Hide. Nice work Mink.
