A little embarrassed to admit

To error is human right? I must have pushed the envelope a little too far this time. Last night I offered my 450g Bredli a 57g small rat. He had been eating 35-45g rat weaners prior to that. The rat didn't really look too big compared to the girth of the snake but I guess it must have been too much for him to handle because he got it 3/4 of the way down before spitting it back out. My question is should I treat this as a regurge and not feed him for 2-3 weeks or should I consider it a one off and resume his normal feeding schedule in 7-10 days? I'll definitely be feeding him a smaller meal. Lesson learned.

It's a one-off don't worry about it. The snake figured it was too big of a meal and spit it back out. You could feed the snake within a day or two.

EL, both vomiting and regurgitation occur after the prey has been already consumed. If he "spit it out" prior to completely devouring it then that is what it is. Spit out. Vomiting usually occurs shortly ( minutes to hours) after consuming something. Regurgitation, by definition, is the expelling of something eaten days later that is partially digested.

Copy that gents. Thanks for the clarification. He definitely spit it out and hadn't completely swallowed the prey item. I'll try him again in a week.

Are bredli more sensitive to prey size than other Morelia? My IJ will happily take a rat 25-30% of body weight?

Just curious as that doesn't seem a big meal. I guess a snake knows what it's comfortable with though.

I would think it's a snake specific sensitivity. I believe most snakes would take larger prey size like you mention but this snake in particular doesn't feel comfortable with it.

Also possible that while the snake was getting it down it felt vulnerable for whatever reason, or spooked by a person nearby and decided to give up to avoid a "predator".
