Enclosure for incoming wee one

So I got my setup *done* for my new little one...I have paper towels down until I can get aspen chips, I don't have the UTH going yet as I wanted to get some heat tape to use instead of sticking it on the tank directly (read somewhere that was a thing to do just incase), and there is a bamboo hide under the plants at the back...what do you think? Too much? I like to provide lots of cover/hides for babies (and my adults). I know the humidity is super low, will work on fixing that before he arrives on Thursday. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm not a terribly huge fan of repti bark honestly...I thought about doing Ecoearth....

Re: Enclosure for incoming wee one

I'd suggest a Sterilite tub over a tank in all honesty, which for a baby you could get set up for $50 or less including thermostat.

If you're dead set on the tank set up, limiting air flow is going to be your friend, and possibly offering a humid hide. I normally suggest using a particulate bedding like EcoEarth in this set up, but imo it's best to use paper towels during those first few months as it's easier to track health. You can see mites and poop a lot easier.

How big is the tank?

Also heat tape isn't tape. It's a two pieces of plastic with metal in between, it's a heating source not adhesive. I think you might be thinking of aluminum tape?

Re: Enclosure for incoming wee one

OP is talking about the metal tape used for heating elements. Not sure the name or brand of it, but I have an enclosure someone used that stuff in and it's ok. Doesn't melt or get sticky like duct tape at least! (Yup, learned that the hard way....)

This! My ex did HVAC stuff and gave me some to stick on the bottom of one of my corn's tank to keep her thing on and it worked very nicely...so it could also be "aluminum tape"? I'm not sure what it's called either.

10 gallon for now, he's a little guy (yes I know they grow fast...). This is temporary until I can get ahold of a Boaphile viv.

Re: Enclosure for incoming wee one

For a while paper towels are perfect. As is a 10 gallon tank. A tub would work as well.

I have my hog island in a 10 gallon atm.

Re: Enclosure for incoming wee one

I got my girl with a big nose rub. Even though the tip of the branch almost touches the screen top, there has been absolutely NO rubbing while in my care. She is happy to be on the tallest point and watch things, maybe she cruises around at night, but she doesn't rub one bit. So long as your husbandry is good and your babe feels secure and comfy, they should not rub.

Nice looking Hog island boa TR! I am with bsg on the tub over the tank though. You can always use the glass tank as a quarantine tank. Thats what i did before going to a qt. tub.
