New Baby ♡
Got my new king in about 3 weeks ago now. He is a Brooksi x Goini mix and gorgeous. He has creams amd black and pinks in him. I gave him a few days to settle. Last week he took down a pinkie no problem. This week, two.
Just some general questions.
Will he be good on two pinkies or should I just feed one?
He shakes his tail against the newspaper in the tank when I open it like he thinks he's a rattlesnake. Its quite funny and doesnt hurt him I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

Re: New Baby ♡
Hey there!
Would love to see some pics of your babe. He sounds gorgeous!
As for your questions, you can certainly feed 2 at a time. I currently have a brooks and unknown black king that I feed 3 fuzzies to. You can also feed on a 4-5 day schedule and feed 1 at a time.
As for the tail rattles, that's classic king style! Nothing to worry about there. =)

Re: New Baby ♡
You can definitely feed more pinks if necessary. I feed my hatchling Everglades Ratsnake 3 pinks at a time bc he's too slender for a fuzzy and needs more than 1 pink.
My hypo Brooksi rattles its tail every time I opens its enclosure as well. Most of my snakes seem to rattle at some point or another except for my ball python and Dumerils boa.

Re: New Baby ♡
He escaped 2 days ago there was a hole in the wall behind his tank I had completely forgotten about. I had covered the area a few months ago when we got Nyteri to i sulate the back of the smaller tank (5 gallon, doesnt reach the back wall like Nyteri's 20 gallon). We live on the second floor with an attic above, next floor down and a basement. Old house, poor insulation ect. I am hoping he didn't fall and if he is in the basement ge slithered down. We have a mouse problem dowm there so I am hoping thats where he went. I have really bad luck with snakes, I think naybe I should just get a green iguana or a beardie

Re: New Baby ♡
Before even thinking about another animal, look for this one you just lost.
There are a number of threads where people have asked for advice. Fortunately I have nothing to add, but here's a few:
Pop bottle: Put a thawed pinkie inside a cleaned out pop bottle and let him come get it (Because you mentioned the hole, maybe rub the pinkie around the edges to put down some scent.)
Flour: Dust the flour with a coating over night and follow the trail the next day.
Don't know if they work, but it is a start.

Re: New Baby ♡
Please don't buy a green iguana if you have problems with simple containment of a kingsnake...they make bad pets and you WILL be out of your depth entirely.
Best of luck finding your new boy. REM suggested some good things.

Re: New Baby ♡
There are people over on the cornsnake forum who have tried the bottle trick and have had success in finding their lost wee ones...I would certainly not give up hope on finding him, and I would suggest looking in places you wouldn't even think of looking. Snakes are crafty and can be found in the strangest places

Re: New Baby ♡
Thank you guys for the hope. I am definitely going to try the soda trick. I am kind of hoping he is in the wall. My cat Pumpkin is only a year and a half and so likes to play with anything that moves and eats bugs.I don't think he got him because he is a picky eater besides that and I certainly haven't found any bodies.

Re: New Baby ♡
Also I grew up with Iguanas thats why I was thinking them but if I were to get another pet it would pro a ly be a beardie. We had one amazing iguana named Frank, when he was killed by a friend's dog we got another male named Iggy and he was the nastiest thing ever. He would whip, escape, etc. My mom had to use a piece of wool for him to bite to catch him.

Yikes! Sounds like you already know how they can be...especially almost all males. We'll keep or fingers crossed that you find your king.

Re: New Baby ♡
My hognose got out of his viv once and somehow made it all the way across a junk filled room, managed to not fall down the heater vent that was along the wall, not get stepped on by anyone as the back door to the garage was there, not get found by my 2 cats (although they need to revoke their cat cards...they watch spiders walk by...) and I found him safe and sound under some boxes and he was VERY offended that I actually found him

Re: New Baby ♡
Man, it's always tough dealing with an escapee. Consider decreasing his escape routes by placing rugs in the gaps between the door and the floor. Check areas that are heat emitting sources like under the fridge, stove, electrical appliances, desktop area. Get a high powered flashlight as well to view those inaccessible areas. Good luck, he will get hungry and emerge soon.
