Puppy Pads for snake substrate?

So, first off I wouldnt use these with my ball or anything else that might want to burrow or use the ground a lot.

Anyways, I have a bag full of puppy pads from when my dog was a puppy 7 years ago. I guess maybe either I'm a pack rat or just thought I'd use them for something at some point and never got rid of them. Well that time is now. I've been keeping my carpet on them since I got him as the tub he's in naturally keeps the humidity around 45-50%..So I decided to give these a try and all I can say is that I love 'em. They soak up and spilled water and any nastiness from feces and cleanup has been a breeze of course. He spends his time perched under the rhp and doesnt mess with the pads much it seems.

Has anyone else used these? I dont think I'd have ever thought about them if I didnt already have them on hand. They just seem like a better version of newspaper I guess...which i'm not a fan of in terms of looks. The whiteness of the pads adds an unexpected look of cleanliness that is nice. Though whenever I move him into his adult cage he'll have a usual substrate.

Thoughts?

I would imagine the chemicals in the pads and the possibility of swallowing them makes it a bad idea to use them. Honestly, at 7 years old I'd just trash them. Just get a normal substrate.

People used to use them but don't anymore...I am guessing because of the expense, but BSG touched on a few things in addition to that. I'd pitch them, myself.

Paper towels (all white unprinted) or unprinted newspaper works well. Get the off brand paper towels from Stop and Shop for cost effectiveness. Uhaul sells boxes of 200 sheets of unprinted newspaper for $9.95 . Just in case you want to consider it.

Any idea what the chemicals in question are?

Not without knowing the brand.
