Het Leopard Visual Markers

Does anyone think there are any decent visual markers for a Het Leopard boa? On Vin Russo's site (cuttingegdeherps.com) he says "Even the normal gene carriers or Het for Leopard boa have a unique appearance" but doesn't specify what that would be... Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Dillon

I will ask him when i see him on June 5th at the Long Island Herpetological meeting. He is the president of the Society here in N.Y.

Wow, awesome! That would be great! I'm sure he talks about it in his book, I just haven't got my hands on a copy yet.

Re: Het Leopard Visual Markers

My hypo 66% het leopard. I've been told by quite a few people that they bet he proves out if I were to ever try. Some markers mentioned was the aberrant pattern with the clouds or bubbles in the markings and the bubbles in the head spear. Also, something about dark eyes.

Re: Het Leopard Visual Markers

Ya I have heard those same markers (dark eyes, bubbles in spear). I have a little central american boa that was sold to me as simply a "het leopard"... So I always get curious to see if he is actually het leopard or not. Is the leopard gene mainly contained with in CA boas? I know it originated out of sonoran's but I assume most are crossed with other localities...? Because obvsiously mine is not pure Sonoran based off his pattern/colour.

Although he does seem to have a few of the het leopard visual markers:

Re: Het Leopard Visual Markers

Leopards originate specifically from the boas found within the Tarahuma mountain range of the Sonoran Desert and as far as adult size they are most certainly one of the smaller dwarf forms, but similar to all hypo boas in the hobby today which orginated from central american boas as well, the gene is being outcrossed to other localities to create different morph combinations quite regularly. There are people working with pure bloodlines but those numbers are much smaller than those who are creating the combinations and crosses.
