Mandarin Rat - Updates?

I'm not looking at buying one tomorrow. But I've been eyeballing them for a while. Using the search I see a few have add them to their collection over the past year or so. Just wanted to get an update on those that have them and the thoughts and husbandry needs after keeping them.

Re: Mandarin Rat - Updates?

Love them!
Biggest thing to make sure of, is ask the breeder detailed questions about how they are keeping theirs and set the one you get from them up that way. There are two rather different methods of keeping them, more like the Oreocryptophis species or more like a typical North American colubrid, some have success or failure keeping them one way or the other. It's my guess that that is based on where the snakes were collected from originally, since their range in the wild is huge and varies a lot in temps, humidity and altitude.
