Exclamation Boa got out

I woke up today with my temporary "lock" busted and no snake in the enclosure! She shoved through where the plexiglass overlaps somehow... I guess I underestimated her strength when I made the temp lock. The enclosure is in my room, and she's too big to squeeze under the door to get out, so she has to be in my room somewhere. I checked under everything and in everything. I keep hearing noises in my closet, it's right next to the enclosure and has no door, but is filled with junk and hard to dig through; I can't find anything so far. I turned on my fan to make my room cool and turned the ceramic heater thermostat up a little to maybe persuade her back into the enclosure... but I don't know. Any other tips or any ideas of where to look? I don't know how I'm not seeing a 5 foot long, decently thick snake!

Re: Boa got out

Give her time. I have a Houdini snake. He's tiny. And last time he got out, he was gone for 2 weeks. Eventually walked into my room to find him about to crawl under a drawer....

Re: Boa got out

Check any furniture couches, beds etc for holes. Read about snake sneaking into them but we are talking thinner snakes but never know if she found a hole big enough to get her nose in she might be able to muscle the rest of the way.

Re: Boa got out

dear sweatshirt, i have nightmares about stories like yours! i sure hope you find him soon. i can't believe how strong they really are. i have mac in a 40 gal tank covered with a screen type top and one night he managed to push the top open and i found him half hanging out! that was before i knew about locks for the top.

Re: Boa got out

It's why I like PVC cages, only one way out and a hinged door has 3 locks and the key is hanging on the wall. But now I have a king in a screen top reptile cage the door is locked just a prevents the door from opening nothing special. Couldn't contain a strong snake I don't think.

Re: Boa got out

Glad to hear you found her! What a relief.

Now I would double and triple up on securing her enclosure. I have no doubt she will be testing any "weakness" in security for a while. I know mine did when my boa go out when the black latches on the screen top of my 60gallon broke several years back. I ended up having to put like 6 texts books on top with new latches until I bought a PVC enclosure that had a key/lock on each door.

Re: Boa got out

Glad to hear everything is OK. These things happen. More often than not there not far from where they got out.

Re: Boa got out

I was weird and would put heavy books on the corners (Harry potter. Lol) to hold the lid down until they got a normal locking cage

Re: Boa got out

Congrats on finding her! Now, secure that enclosure. Double, triple clips or locks.
