I have a male jungle boa thats around 1 1/2 years old. Had him for 5 months, never tried to strike at all, but this week hes been hissing a little when i go near his cage and struck at me once. Hes not in shed, feeding and cage temps and humidity are spot on. Is there any reason for this?
In a book I have it says that some boas may become irritable around 1 or 2 years old, but that they settle down with proper handling as they mature. So, I guess you've got yourself a punk teenager there.
It's possible you just startled him. If it was just one instance, it's a little early to say the snake is turning defensive. Snakes have bad days, too.
