Wild type Bredli

All of my wild-type bredli's shed cycles have been synced lately and I thought I'd take advantage of a nice day to snap a few outdoor shots

Re: Wild type Bredli

Thank you!

I'm going to put the male in the last picture in with the female in pic 2 as well as a stonewash female next year. The babies won't breed until they are 3.5 years old

Re: Wild type Bredli

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a wild type bredli? To my Aussie eyes, they are just normal bredli, maybe two of them are hypo, but that's all.

Re: Wild type Bredli

No you are correct. Wild-type means "normal", "classic" (or whatever term you want to use) in that it means you can go out to the wild and catch a similar looking animal vs a morph which is a single gene mutation that needs to be bred for. These aren't hypos, just "normals" from different bloodlines.

Personally I don't like the term normal because in some circles "normals" are seen as somehow inferior to morphs. Which isn't true at all in my eyes since the classic wild-type bredli are some of the most fantastic looking snakes on the planet

Re: Wild type Bredli

Very true. That's why I personally don't like jags and crosses; there is so much beauty in the naturally found snakes. But that's an argument for another day..... Lol
It is interesting how little black they seem to have; how much UV have they been exposed to? I ask because we had a bredli that we transferred into another tank with a UV globe, and she progressively lost her black coloration.

Re: Wild type Bredli

I don't use UV on them. Mine are orange because I sought out the orangest bredli I could find from the American and Swedish lines for breeding. I want to breed a bredli that is unbelievably orange but still keep the black outlines around the white stripes. You aussies seem to have a few like that but no one in America has really tried to refine the bredli.

I do have a friend that uses Mega-ray UV bulbs and says it makes a huge difference on his bredli. I've just never tried it

Re: Wild type Bredli

We noticed the UV seemed to reduce the black on ours. Have never seen anything to confirm this happening.
There does seem to be two naturally occurring colour types in the bredli. The browner tones, and the redder tones.
