Re: Bateater's
Ah, cool.
And another question....
Why are people against hybrids? I saw a really pretty cornsnake/thyrie kingsnake mix the other day and he was soooo pretty....are there health issues with hybrids or something?

Lots of threads outlining this.
Nothing wrong with the animals. It's when people get involved things go wrong. Lots of people lie.

Re: Bateater's
Ah, sorry, I haven't seen much about it other than people not liking it.
What are the lies? Are the hybrids not distinct in their looks enough for someone to tell?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
Example, diamond carpet pythons were super expensive 15 years ago. People would buy 1 and then breed it to a few jungle carpets, which are super cheap, then sell the babies as pure diamonds.
The purity of the bloodlines then become unpure. Some people continue on not knowing that they have a cross and breed/sell what they think are pure as pure further screwing things up.
It's to the point that I personally have a few projects I want but will have to find wild caughts so I know exactly where they came from.

Re: Bateater's
One of the complications that a hybrid can have is the inability to reproduce. So, as long as you are using the two reproducable species ie retic x Burmese , the offspring can be sterile. I don't know what the percentages are but it exists. So, your bateater runs the risk of being sterile.

As far as I've known, every hybrid reptile has NOT been sterile so the liklihood of it happening now is pretty slim.
