Snake won't shed.

My VBB went blue last Tuesday, and still hasn't shed. The humidity is around 70%, and there is a humisd hide, but still nothing. What methods do you use in this situation? I've never had this trouble before. Currently the fella is soaking, and I'll try the damp towel trick to see how that works.

Re: Snake won't shed.

I'm not familiar with VBB's but my snakes can sometimes take 7-10 days to complete their shed cycle. I'd just wait for him to shed on his own.

Re: Snake won't shed.

It has never taken this long, so I'm a bit nervous. Typically it takes a week or so, but this is going on two. I know he will take food, would feeding encourage shedding due to the stretching?

VBB is a Vietnamese Blue Beauty snake. All these initials and Latin names can be confusing to a lot of people.

Re: Snake won't shed.

I placed him in his feeding box, with a small amount of water and a hand towel. It's been an hour, and the eyes are looking much clearer. The feeding box is in the regular enclosure, so temps are still good. I'm going to keep him like this for a few hours, and just keep checking
It's probably no big deal, but longer than usual sheds can't be good. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Snake won't shed.

My hondo had an unusually long shed cycle once. From going blue to actually shedding was around 3 weeks! But it was a perfect shed, she continued to eat like a champ afterwards, and she's been completely healthy. I never did figure out what caused such a long shed cycle, but nothing bad came of it anyway.

Re: Snake won't shed.

Well, Jenkins still doesn't want to shed. I let him back into the regular humid hide, and it looks like we wait until he's ready. In a few days it will be two weeks, and I'll feed him and see what happens. He seems healthy in every other respect.

Just wait. The older your beauty gets it can take longer. Has he made it past the blue stage and gone clear again? I'm referring to the point when the eyes no longer look blue right before they shed.

Re: Snake won't shed.

I just walked past and saw two piles of skin. Looks like things went well, double checking later since it is dinner day. Time for pictures! Thanks for all the comments and advice, it was just an odd long shed.
