Question My JCP bit herself while feeding.

So this is the first time this has happened and I'm at a loss for why she did it but my Jcp Zannah let go of her rat and bit herself. She then went on to feed again on the rat. I checked to make sure there was no damage and she seems to be ok but I'm a worrier when it comes to my baby so if theres anything I should look out for I'd like to know.

Also does anyone have any idea why she would have done this because I have no idea. Shes not about to shed and as far as I can tell theres nothing wrong with her eyes.

No idea why it happens, it just does. I think it's because they're a little too enthusiastic about their dinner. I've had a few do it.

I cant see any visible wounds but is there chance of infection or anything like that. As I said i tend to worry about her a lot.

Not likely. What you can do is get some neosporin or polysporin anti-bacterial gel and dab a little on the bite spot. You don't need much. Just make sure it's not the stuff with pain killer in it.

Re: My JCP bit herself while feeding.

quick research on them both says polysporin might be the best way to go because neosporin as chemicals that might not get along with the snake.
I'll pick some up after work and dab some on.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Good call (I only use polysporin myself anyways, can you share the info you found about the two?). Happy to help.

Re: My JCP bit herself while feeding.

one of my Diamond Pythons did it last feeding day, they tend to get over excited at the smell of prey and hit anything that moves, including their own bodies

i wouldn't worry about it mate

cheers shaun
