Re: picked up a WC western coachwhip today

Very cool, congrats! An Eastern Coachwhip is on my short list but they are very hard to find captive born and when they do pop up they are captive born of WC gravid females. There are a few breeders working with Westerns but they usually stick to the Red Phase Western Coachwhips. It is to bad Coachwhips (and other whips and racers) are so under appreciated in the hobby, probably largely due to their reputation of being nervous and nippy, they actually make great captives (or so I'm told by those who keep them) and, as you mentioned, are relatively intelligent. Not to mention beautiful. You should update us with pictures from time to time, I'd be very interested to see how much (if at all) the banding fades as it ages. Congrats again, I'm a bit jealous lol.

Re: picked up a WC western coachwhip today

Yea dude their no where to be found only wc but i didnt mind wc bc its as close to nature as your going to get..plus after having so many cb snakes its a nice change up.i cant believe black racers and coachwhips are looked down upon i absolutely love them and i cant wait to get my hands on a black racer too.this guy i got today was in captivity for 6 months from some people ive known for a while that know how to take care of any sort of reptile so i was very comfortable with getting him and he is just a mush.

Re: picked up a WC western coachwhip today

The only real reason I'd prefer to have CB animals is to avoid the issue of parasites. I do have a couple WC snakes in my collection, they are definitely a bit feistier than the rest on my animals but I love them for it. They remind me of the snakes I encounter in the field. Good luck finding the Black Racer and be sure to post pics, as much as I may hate you for it
