Sterilizing Wood

Hi, usually I don't bother with sterilizing what I put in my tank, but I have some cork bark that was in my brother's frog tank and all of his frogs died, so I was wondering how to sterilize the cork bark just to be safe, or if I should just forget it. Thanks in advance!

Re: Sterilizing Wood

I've heard of baking it...but to be honest I'd just throw it away. I don't mess with possibly diseased things going anywhere near my babies. If it's not new or something I collected and baked myself, I don't use it.

Re: Sterilizing Wood

That's what I was thinking too is to maybe just toss it, but if I can save it I will cause it's a really cool piece, haha.

Re: Sterilizing Wood

Cork is absorbent so best to toss it. There really is no way of totally disinfecting it short of soaking in a bleach solution followed by baking for hours.

Re: Sterilizing Wood

I would definitely toss it just in case the two events were positively related. Could even be something toxic on it.

Re: Sterilizing Wood

We believe the frogs got red leg, but we're not really sure so I'm just going to leave it.
