Hi everyone! My name is Bri and I just recently bought an Albino California King Snake. I am so worried that I'm going to do something wrong. I need as much help as I can get! I have a few questions about his tank.. I understand he has a heating lamp to stay toasty but the general temperature of my room is chilly.. I felt his tank yesterday and it was cold. Will that be a problem for him? I'm just not sure. He has a little half coconut in his tank for "protection" but he's been in there for quite some time. I've only had him for about a day so far lol this is the second day. I'm not sure if he's just scared or if something is wrong. Please give me all the information you can! I need it!

Hey and Welcome! Post pics of your snake and setup. King snakes do well with a warm side of 85 to 90 degrees and cool side mid 70's to 80. Place a hide on both the cool and warm side of the enclosure and to provide hiding places. Shredded aspen works great for a substrate for burrowing. You need a heat source such as a heat pad/heat tape or rhp( radiant heat panel) and heat about 1/3 of the enclosure. The heat source needs to be controlled by a themostat. A good inexpensive thermostat is the hydrofarm:

Good inexpensive heat tape:

12" Heat Tape You can order a 12x12 inch or whatever size will cover 1/3 of the bottom of enclosure.

Choose a size that will heat about 1/3 of your enclosure. These are mounted on the top of your enclosure. Again whatever heat source you choose and thermostat is necessary equipment to control the heat and for safety.

Welcome and best wishes Bri. Steve (Sharthun) gave great advice for heating your enclosure. I use UTH's controlled by hydrofarm thermostats on my tanks and tubs. Let's see pics of your snake and setup when you get a chance.

It looks like they are giving you good information. Congrats on the albino King snake. They are very shy snakes, as it matures it will come out of hiding on its own. Do you have a thermometer to tell how the temperatures look in the cage?

Thermometers to work with your thermostats and a temp gun are also invaluable in monitoring your snake's environment.
