I dont believe that it is neccessary. it is generally a practice to induce breeding. But in the wild they do have a cool down period in winter. Many do not cool their snakes and I hae heard no il effects from not brumating.

I planted some bird seed. A bird came up. Now I don't know what to feed it.
I burmated some ribbon snakes last year but they didnt breed (not totally sure if they were 1.1 though, heh) but even then no ill effects for cooling them down. Its more if you have the space or not to do it properly
