Question Regarding Hides

Hey everybody just a quick question is it ok to use log-like hides that you find In the park or something or do they have to be bought from a store/online? And are you allowed to use log-like hides that you find in gardening stores?

Re: Question Regarding Hides

If you are 100%. Sure that there is no pesticide use where the logs are found I would use them.

Re: Question Regarding Hides

It's fine as long as you treat it, throw it in the oven at like 200 for an hour or so to kill anything in it, just make sure it doesn't start smoking, the stuff in a pet store is usually pre treated but you may end up bringing something else home you didn't want aka mites

Re: Question Regarding Hides

If using anything from outside, I personally first soak in a 1 part bleach, 3 parts water solution. Let it air out for a few hours or overnight, then bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes. Just keep an eye on the oven so things don't start smoking or burning.

I'll bear that in mind if I find anything. Thanks!
