Went to an exotic animal expo, now I'm obsessed.
Hello all, just thought I would introduce myself and get some help as well.
So ever since I went to this expo I've been dead set on getting myself a snake. I've done a fair amount of research, and even bought a terrarium. My only problem, is that I can't decide on which snake to get. So if ya'll could make suggestions, I would be really appreciative.
My criteria are this
-Must not cost an absurd amount of money. $400 is my ABSOLUTE max.
-Be able to relax with me, sit on my lap occasionally, be friendly.
-Preferably, be housed in a 36x18 tank. But I may possibly bump up my size to 48x24, depending on what my options are.
I know by now you're thinking, oh he should just get a ball python. Well I'm a stubborn hipster, and everyone has a ball python.
I have also been trying to look at dwarf boa's, but I can't seem to find information on them that is consistent.
So if you could help me out and make suggestions, I would really love you. Thanks.

Hey and Welcome! You are doing things right by purchasing the enclosure first before acquiring a new animal. There are numerous choices for snakes that fit your criteria. In the end, you need to get what you want! IMO, it's better to get the enclosure that will house the snake as an adult and just add sufficient cover and hides. Also very important is the husbandry, heat and humidity requirements. A necessary piece of equipment is a thermostat to control your heat source. heat tape/mat or radiant heat panel. There are very experienced and knowledgeable folks here that will give great advice!

Welcome aboard, there's a lot of snakes you could get with 400 dollars but since you are looking for dwarf boas it sounds as if your looking for something a little smaller that is heavy bodied if I'm guessing right. Ever thought of a blood python? Not a long snake but very heavy bodied. Just my 2 cents

With a $400 budget, about 3/4 of that should go to the enclosure, heating, hides, etc. I know you said you already had a terrarium, but the snake is the cheapest part of the equation.

Try a Children's Python or a Spotted Python.
