Can a water bowl be too big?

I recently picked up some of those dog water bowls that can double as hides. The only problem is that they seem pretty large(about 6 inches across for juvenile corn/rat snakes). I figured I'd get them anyway, but right now they are big enough to be a swimming pool for my smaller snakes. What do you guys think, can a water bowl be too large?

Nope. I don't see how they would. Snakes have large rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, puddles...etc in their natural habitat. Don't think a bowl would ever be considered big to a snake.

They can all swim very sell so I can't imagine that it would be too large as long as there's room in the cage.

As long as there isn't too much water in the bowl I can't imagine any problems. I figure in the wild they'd come across larger bodies of water. I just wouldn't want the snakes to tip the bowl over.

Re: Can a water bowl be too big?

Thanks for the opinions guys. I like the multiple functions the bowls provide, but I might hold off on using them until I have larger enclosures. I think they take up a little too much floor space. Though who knows, it might be cool to have the equivalent of a pond for my snakes.

Re: Can a water bowl be too big?

My dad uses a dogs food bowl for his bp in a 40gal. I use a the bottom of a Chinese carry out plastic container which is pretty large, but shallow

Stick a rock in the bowl and make an island for the snake to bask on.

You have those bowls in rodent sizes as well, i use them for my rats! And they even had smaller sizes.

I'll have to look into that. I decided to give the bowl to my gray rat snake and he seemed interested in it. But I also changed him over to aspen, so he doesn't care about hides at all right now.

That's a neat idea!
