He is about to shed, but the little fleck is a bit of cypress mulch from when he was burrowing. If you look at the "Vlad the Impaler" thread you will see why we are hesitent to remove it. He is nervous enough that we would probably do more harm removing the little piece stuck to the side of his mouth then just leaving it. I'd rather not accidently push it into his mouth or break some of his teeth removing it.
