Anyone use leds?

So I am slowly making progress on my 8' enclosure build and I am trying to plan out the lighting. I am thinking of using an LED strip. Here are a couple that I have considered, think either of these will work well?

Amazon.com: Universal LED Remote Controlled Light Strip - Used for Night Light Lamp Under Kitchen Cabinet Desk TV Accent Lights Home D?cor Marine Boat RV Motorhome Table Reading Light - 1M 60 LED Strip Light SMD3528 Warm White Waterproof 12V 3528 SMD

or

Re: Anyone use leds?

LED tape lighting is what I am using.

LED Tape Light | LED Strip Light | 24V LED | 1000Bulbs.com

I rout a channel in the top of the cage and put this lens over it.

78.75 in. Frosted Mounting Channel Lens - HS12 Cover

They also have aluminum channels and all the connectors that makes it really easy.

I use the 6000k daylight spectrum high output tape and it works very well.

Re: Anyone use leds?

cool-white is '6000k', however it doesnt output full-spectrum daylight in the same way that a CFL or metal-halide does. still looks great tho!

I prefer to use GU10 LED bulbs for larger enclosures, 5W-12W - strips are great for background lighting, but you will need allot to create a proper daylight experience in an 8 foot enclosure (unless its not very high, say less than 1.5')

Re: Anyone use leds?

Yes the terminology used by light manufacturers is for their own marketing purposes.

The light strips in the "natural to cool" range of 6000k or so will bring out your animals colors nicely.

The newer light strips on the market will put out the light needed for display purposes, so long as you use one that has the output/density for your needs.

These cages are four ft long and two ft high using a single wide high output 36" strip light. It lights up these cages like high noon!

Super Bright LED has a nice selection of strip light tapes.

High Power LED Flexible Light Strip - NFLS-X3 | Top Emitting | Flexible LED Light Strips | LED Light Strips & Bars | Super Bright LEDs

This is what is used in the cage above, the "natural white" is 5600k, but it has the output to light a large cage with a single row of tape. Very cost effective.

Wow! Amazing enclosure and setup! I'm jealous!
