Weird shed? What's going on?
In my other thread I asked about Magenta hissing at me, that was on the 24th so essentially a week and a half ago. Her scales were looking dull, so I agree with you guys saying that she was/is probably in shed.
Anyways, I moved her to a tub a few days ago and I noticed that when I moved her, her eyes were blue. I offered her food 2 days prior, but she didn't take it. (I tong feed her, she has a great feeding response. This is the first time she refused).
On another note, when I moved her, again she hissed like crazy, but that's obvious since she was probably stressed cuz she is in blue. She's hissed at me a total of 4 times now. 1. When I tried to hold her 2. When I tried feeding her 3. When I moved her 4. When I was checking the temperatures with the temp gun
It's a really weird shed, no? The humidity in her tub is 80% right now.... Her warm side is 93 degrees and the cool side is 79.
I know I might sound overly-concerned but you know, this is only her second shed with me, and I'm obviously sort of new to snakes.
Also, I haven't tried holding/touching her since the 24th... I'm leaving her alone but it's still worrying me.

Try and not mess with it too much during this time. Its only adding stress to the animal. No need in offering food during this time. Once the snake has shed, then offer a meal. Your set up seem OK as far as temps and humidity. I wouldnt worry.

I had a BCI a while back. They can be a little weird. Don't worry about the hissing, be glad the doesn't use the sharper things in her "mouf".

Re: Weird shed? What's going on?
I've heard that it's bad to offer food to a shedding snake because they can't hydrate themselves enough to digest, and shed successfully (or something like that).

Pretty much all my snakes will/have eaten during shed, the only time this caused any sort of issue was with my jcp who's shed split during the eating process. The shed still came off 100% with no assistsnce from me but was in a Few pieces.

Re: Weird shed? What's going on?
I offered her food to see if she was the type of snake to take food during a shed or not... that's all. She still hasn't shed and is looking really wrinkly (I'm just looking at her from the outside of the tub) :/ humidity is still the same most of the time. When I spray it it spikes to 90% for a few hours and the next day it's 70% again.

Yup they can take a while sometimes. Just last week my Irian Jaya carpet python confused the hell out of me. Took nearly a week to shed, usually only takes a few days after going into blue.

Re: Weird shed? What's going on?
Congrats sweatshirt, I'm glad Magenta's shed went well. Can I piggy back on this and ask another feeding while shedding related question? I was wondering if snakes can have a hard time eating larger prey while shedding. My MBK only ate half a fuzzy last week and left the other half uneaten. I've just recently moved her up from pinkies and she's eaten fuzzys twice before. The only thing I could think of was her skin wasn't stretching enough to get it down. And she started tail end first. This ever happen to anyone else?

Re: Weird shed? What's going on?
.... or not. I saw the fish net sort of look and half her skin looked lighter when I checked on her a few hours ago, but I just lifted her hide. No shed

Aww, I'm sure she'll shed soon. My snakes go dull and blue, then clear up for a few days and then they shed. Hopefully youre in the final stages.
