hi

hi, I am a new owner of a small Boa! well, my son is. we just discovered Mites on him. he has put him in water...but I think the water is too cool. he says its fine but I say it should be warmer...like bath water. anyone know how warm the water should be? and should we put Dawn in the water? wash all the stuff in his tank? change the bedding?

Re: hi

Get some prvent a mite and follow the instructions to the letter, water may wash the mites of the snake but wont kill the eggs in the enclosure, provent a mite stays active for longer than the eggs take to hatch so kill off the whole cycle.

Re: hi

do as lankyrob said for the mites,
i would toss all the disposable elements of the cage as well (while you are treating the tank with PAM) like bedding etc, and clean the furniture/waterbowls etc with very hot water.

as for soaking your snake: it shouldnt be needed unless he has problems shedding down the road (make sure your cage has proper humidity and he should shed fine). If he does need a soak, aim for ~80 degree water, and never leave your snake unattended in the water. 10 minutes or so should be fine. Also, dont add any products to the water, they arent needed (no oils, aloes, etc).
