Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
How I got the exact answer for 2.2 is easy. (2x16) + (2x1.6) = 32 + 3.2 = 35.2. That one was really too easy. 6.748 ft was a bit harder, but its close enough to 6.75 I did (6x12) + (.75x12) = 72 + 9 = 81. In reality its something like 80.9...

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
I would like to point out that a liter of liquid mercury weighs slightly more than a liter of water. Which then throws the whole stupid idea that all one liter containers of liquid weighs one kilo.

I must've missed this part... Liquid density plays a huge part in the weight of the liter.

Thats funny
Frankly I like the American style of measurement better. Metric may be easier for the rest of the world but our system is what Im used to and that makes it easier for me and at 49 yrs old Im not in any mood to change. For me school zones will always be 25 mph and freeway speed limits will always be 65 and 70 mph (unless your in Des Moines, then its 55 and 60 mph). Anyway, 5' 11" and 165 lbs makes much more sense to me than 152 cm and 75 kg but hey thats just me.

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
don't get me wrong there's a degree of comfort and familiarity with standard units, but if the country as a whole were to make the switch to metric I would have no problem with doing so. But I'm perfectly happy with the established system.

I dont see us ever doing that. To too many people, its a national sovereignty thing, just one more thing that slips us further into worldwide socialism.

This is for water, and approximated for things close to water. I did at first say liquid when I should have explicitly stated water, although I did when I started talking about it. Obviously with mercury this is not the case. When was the last time you needed to measure mercury anyway?
FYI, a gram was originally defined as the mass of 1 cubic centimeter (1 milliliter) of water at 4 degrees (Celsius). It is by definition, not by coincidence that a liter of water weighs 1kg.

You still had to do math though. You would be surprised how many people can't even add numbers without a calculator.

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
You dont have to do any math at all if the main system is what youve used all the time. 1 lb = 1 lb, 1' = 1' and 1 mi = 1 mi.

OK, Great. Then without doing any math you can tell me exactly how many cubic inches are in 7.473728 cubic feet, right?
I can tell you how many cubic millimeters are in 7.473728 cubic meters by moving the decimal place.
Don't need any math because you're used to it right. So go ahead. I'm waiting for your exact numeric value without any math.

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
See I dont go with what the majority opinion is on anything for the sake of following that majority opinion. I go with what seems right to me and it doesnt matter what other people think about anything so arguing what is easier or better falls on deaf ears. Call it stubborn or even stupid, Idc. Thats just the way I am.
