The only true Bloods are Reds and Red morphs. Borneo's and Blacks are actually Short Tail Pythons. Same specie different sub species. Also something that can make it confusing is there is a Sumatra blood python also which is a true Red blood. They are both found in different parts of Sumatra with a mountain range separating them. Big difference is color, temperament, and size.
As for color they should get dark with age. Some do stay lighter but most get darker.

Here's a map of the three species
P. brongersmai, the blood python, highlighted in red
P. curtus, the Sumatran short tail, or black blood highlighted in blue
P. breitensteini, the Borneo short tail, highlighted in yellow

Thanks Shaun. I can't wait till they darken up more. Hope fully they will get as dark as dad. A few should end up being nice chrome heads.

i remember the last time i fed an adult blood of my mates.....
it was that still i actually thought it was dead,i jiggled the prey around it,even touching it's face,as i was pulling the prey back and turning my head to shout to my friend, that i thought his blood was dead....
BANG from nowhere it lunged 2 to 3 feet along the tank and ripped the prey from the tongs..
i literally jumped with fright...
for a big fat snake, those guys can move
one of the hardest feeding responses ive ever seen
cheers shaun

The feeding response of an adult blood/stp, is unrivaled for their size for sure. I don't turn my back on an open cage anymore, I've learned my lesson, lol. It's awesome how much of a strike range these short stubby snakes actually have!

I seen them as low as $250.00 on up. You get what you pay for. The nicer one usually cost more. When buying one be sure to check the tongue if it pink it's a Matrix. If not they trying reap you off. That's the only 100% marker for ID them but it doesn't work for albinos.
Shannon sweet looking SSTP.
Shaun your not joking about their feed response. Their strength and speed are insane for something so short and fat. My old Borneo hadn't eat for a few months so i decided to try a live jumbo rat. As soon as it hit the cage floor it was over. He nailed it so hard he knocked the cage he was in off the shelf and reaped the rats head part way off.
