I'm currently a graduate student...working on a Ph.D. I have precious little time and money; however, my animals are one of my top priorities. I do not spend lots of money on manicures, or fancy hairstyles, and I rarely go out drinking or to dinner. My money goes to my pets and to paying bills, and then whatever happens to be left over for the month goes into savings or I use a bit for myself.

Sure, it would be "easier" for me to sell off my rather large zoo of pets, but they bring me joy and are fascinating creatures. I decided to make the sacrifices that I needed to in order to enjoy having snakes and other exotics. My fiance understands, although at times it can strain our relationship when finances are tight and there's always someone that needs food, or a new cage, etc. I have sold animals in the past; I made sure they got good homes. At times when one has a large collection, one must make the decision to part with a few in order to better care for the remaining ones.

However, in your case ReptileSeeker, it sounds as though you have just the one monitor. I understand that they are time-consuming pets; they need lots of space and a good diet and a proper cage in order to thrive. But try to understand where us here on the forum are coming from too- there is nothing wrong with saying "I cannot, or don't want to, keep this lizard anymore, and am looking to sell him." But you need to be honest.

Basically, I'm just trying to impress upon you that where there's a will, there's a way. If you truly love your lizard, you can probably find a way to be able to keep him. It would likely mean making changes in other areas of your life though. If he isn't a priority, then that's your prerogative, but be clear about what you are looking for. Indicating a trade possibility when you can't manage to take care of the animal you already have is not a good sign.

i have 8 leos, 6 beardies, ive had a male sal water monitor that was 8' + , i have 2 leachies, 2 tokays, and i love all my animals

biscally i need the extra room for another project im about to start .

See, there you go. You want to go in a different direction with your collection. That's a better way of phrasing it than "I just don't have time or money for this lizard."
Baby savannah monitors are absolutely adorable, and most of the online care sheets make ownership sound a lot less complicated than it actually is. Savs are temperamental and delicate, they need good dirt to dig in, accurate temps, varied diet (tons of debate on this), and time to tame them. Most people don't realize this when they get one, and they get in over their heads and then the savs end up on Craigslist or inappropriately cared for until they die.

This forum is honestly not a very good place to sell animals. We tend to stick with our pets if at all possible, so random selling isn't received well. You might be better off looking into getting an account with Fauna Classifieds to advertise him there, or attend a local reptile expo to look for a trade. Understand though, that savannah monitors do not carry much value in the reptile market because of the number of unwanted ones. A baby sav might go for $10-30 on Fauna or at a reptile expo. The vast majority of expense from a monitor lizard comes from its enclosure and supplies, most of which cannot easily be sold.

I wish you luck though. Just be careful that you are ready to take on another project, since you mentioned that school takes a lot of your time. It's easy to take on a bunch of different reptiles with great ideas of breeding and raising them, only to find after a few years that you were much happier with fewer animals to strain your time. You have a nice selection of lizards from your description. Take it sow, be honest with your market and best of luck.

I understand the frustration with the OP here....it does sound like a case of buyer's remorse. However, maybe we should not berate him too hard, or he will disappear and who knows if the sav will get to a proper home?
