I am not afraid of any reptiles, however I do have a healthy respect for those that can inflict serious injury if you do not respect them.

They aren't reptiles, but I do have a silly irrational fear of many spiders... Daddy Long Legs take the cake. I like the little white spiders, and in fact had a whole bunch of them living in my car one summer. Jumping spiders are cute o> Most tarantulas are gorgeous IMO, however they give me a serious case of the heebie jeebies, some more than others. I would really like one as a pet, but I'm not sure how feasible that is...

I am scared crapless of my own Tarantulas. Yet in the two years+ of owning T's I have yet to have to handle one. I just use a deli cup for moving from dirty to clean cage. LOL

If one got out I would be hostage in my own house hiding in a corner most likely.

Well,

Im not "scared" of anything but the one reptile that REALLY intimidates me and no offence to anyone but I really dislike green iguanas ALOT. They also intimidate me cause i have had a 5ft iggy(1 ft of tail missing), 15lbs, chase me 30ft through a pet store I occasionally volunteer at. I have held 10" - 4ft iggys about 6-10 times but that was for cleaning purposes. Also, a really funny thing is i absolutely HATE hampsters. I know they are not a herp but i would rather hold almost any herp than a hampster. I swear they are out to get me.

On the other hand, i do have a very good respect for any herps. I will always act accordingly. The biggest herp i have held was probably a 9ft, 40lb albino burm(he was a BEAUTY). I was about 10 and this thing was pretty big for me at the time but i was in no way scared. I was probably abit timid but not really scared. This was at a Snake Farm in New Braunfels, Texas(right beside san antonio). They also had i think I 23ft(not sure on sizes) female green annaconda and 15ft male. The female was pregnant but they let me touch the male. It was pretty sweet. I was again not scared but i knew the strength this things had and was very respecful of it. So there yah go. I kid that would love a 25' retic but not a hampster! HAHAHA. I actually laugh at myself for that. I think im very weird

LOL..I find it amusing when I see people write things like "I am not afraid of any reptile" or "I am not afraid of anything". I am willing to bet a year's salary that if anyone of you encountered a full grown Croc in the wild...that decided to come after you..and that "you" were going to be its next meal...that sure as sh** you people would be SCARED!!!. It's a natural human emotion..so its okay..you can admit when your scared.

When I worked exploration in S. Africa in the Kalahari Desert I had concerns over Black Mambas, Cobras & Puff Adders. I wasn't scared of them, but more so of what they could do to me. Due to the remote location of the program I would have died a long painful death if any of these snakes had tagged me. I had a couple of real close encounters with Puff Adders that very easily could have been the end of me. Ah the things we do for money eh! Mark
P.S. Oh yeah Tarantulas still give me the hibbee jibbees, but not so bad anymore. I never used to care for snakes much either. My how things have changed!

this is a good thread, i wanted to ask if some of you are afarid of looking for your pets, when you lose them???cause they could be hinding in a dark corner, and if you try and grab them they might lunge and might take a bite

I'm not afraid of any animal but I have alot of respect and space for lots of them (like venomous snakes and crocs)

What fangs? unless the snake has venom with a delivery system (ie cobras), there are no fangs.

I'm not afraid of any of my snakes, how ever i am cautious about not trigering a bite.

A friend of mine had (still has, i think) big water monitors. He was crazy because he would handle them all the time even though they were mean as hell. The guy had huge scars on his arms from bites of those beasts. I remember how afraid i was of his monitors...
The funny thing is that his biggest salvator (over 9 feet and the largest lizard of any kind i ever saw ) was also the tamest one. You could pet the creature around and touch him in the head. He would close his eyes like he was enjoying it. But the other monitors were pure fury. Scary!!

Any real venomous snakes and large varanids, like komodo dragons and crocodile monitors. Crocs are also very frightening... gotta give them their space! Man they are scary, but I'd still keep them

Then they wouldn't be necessarily scared of the reptile, but scared of the situation. There are a lot of scary situations that involve things that we wouldn't otherwise pay any attention to or that we feel comfortable with.

Yes, true. Well in my case, even it were at a zoo and I was next to a 15 ft croc, not seperated by glass or anything, I would be fearful. Fear is what keeps people on their toes in those situations.
Have you ever noticed Steve Irwin when he is handling either a highly venenomous snake or encounters an animal that he knows is dangerous. He will tremble with fear and will admit it. I guess its not that he is "scared" to touch the snake or whatever, but that kinda fear gives people a rush. (i.e. SKYDIVING!!!)

Definately the spiders for me. They just have way too many legs I think

Tarantulas give me the creeps, especially. I'm always somewhat nervous of handling big boxes that have been sitting in the basement. I have 'found' many spiders that way.. and daddy longlegs.. ICK. Attractive, I don't think

I'm sure there's a multitude of venomous snake species I would be nervous to encounter.

What's funny is I have bred mice and rats and yet if I saw a wild one anywhere in the house I would probably jump and want it out right away. Especially wild rats (and I own a pet rat). Probably partly because of the association of disease.
