Re: Morelia Amethystina pair - Amethystine python

Contrary to my usual no handling rule the scrubs are the ones I want to at least tolerate it.

Even basic viv maintenance can be hugely risky with full grown adults if they're too viv defensive so they'll be handled briefly once a week or so. They may or may not accept me as not a threat, only time with tell.

Had them out tonight and got a couple of reasonable shots.

Little strings of hate

Actually they were pretty chilled tonight - no attempts to strike.

Beautiful death worms. Hopefully they won't try and kill you every chance they get. Good luck mate

Did I tell you I really don't like you yet . They really are beautiful mate, but if I were you I'd handle them 3 times a week at this age and maybe cut back as they get older. Just my opinion mate

You have mentioned it a couple of times . I'll take hate though as they really are special snakes .

I'm not adverse to up the handling once they're settled. I have been speaking to last few scrub owners and they largely do calm down with enough gentle handling.

They're intelligent snakes though and remember when you've stressed then as well as when you've been gentle with them apparently and will punish accordingly so it's a balancing act.

I'll get there with them though.

Wow snakes that hold a grudge that's a new one.

Not a grudge as such, they just 'remember' (if that's the right word in respect of a snake) poor handling and react accordingly.

I've heard of conditioning and getting used to people but to remember to that degree seems much faster then any other snake I've heard. Usually takes other snakes several handlings for them to realize you aren't trying to kill them.

You better be on your best behaviour mate

Re: Morelia Amethystina pair - Amethystine python

They are very quick learners. I've heard for example of it only taking 2 or 3 feeds on say the left side of the viv for them to associate that door opening with feeding and consequently the right door being opened is somewhat ignored whereas go anywhere near the left and they're expecting food immediately.

Similarly rough handling with a hook will quickly result in them avoiding the hook altogether or attacking it.

Really looking forward to working with them.

Re: Morelia Amethystina pair - Amethystine python

That isn't as surprising, was talking to a guy at an expo last weekend. His female SD knows what the latches on the door mean. As soon as he unlocks the first one her head is by the second before he can even take his hands off the first.

Re: Morelia Amethystina pair - Amethystine python

Had Squishy outside for the first time. She's doing great - no attempts to strike last few handling sessions. Stampy Cat is deep in blue so I let him be...

Awesome critter Danny. I love the pattern and colors. She's going to be absolutely stunning as an adult!

She's beautiful Danny, and it's good to see pics of these. Pics of the male when he sheds would be nice
