Didn't want to disturb her to much. Snapped the pictures and left the room. Soon after the sun came out and she retreated to the plants.

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
That's why Ziggy loves his carpets, I think. They're almost always out...either perched sleeping, or cruising around. Enjoy that one! We have all had a little freak out or two when a new addition has gone "missing" in their own enclosure!

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
All my snakes have been a lot bigger when I got them. I was sure the cage was secure but such a tiny snake I started doubting that. Checked the cables behind the cage . Now I know where her hiding spot is on the ground. Never had such a tiny thing to find. Plan to give a few more days until I attempt feeding.

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
Even when she was a wee pissy murder worm my little IJ had a healthy appetite. I doubt you'll have any problems getting your new baby to eat. Was she started on mice or rat pinks?
Found my little IJ was MIA when I came home from work last Friday night. She gets fed on Sundays, so she was on the hungry side of the week. I put 2 mice in a 10 gallon tank with a screen top in the middle of a table, turned off the lights, and came upstairs. Went back down about 2 hours later, and found her just starting across the table toward the tank of mice. She now has 2 straps securing the top of her tank instead of 1 in the middle, and will be moved into a larger enclosure soon.

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
Definitely go with fuzzies or hoppers if you're going to use mice...she's plenty large enough. If you use rats, good sized pinkies or peach fuzzies would be good.

Ya, when I brought my first carpet home I tried feeding him pinky mice for a few weeks w/out any luck. Finally got him to take a live hopper, then months later it occured to me he'd probably been started on rat pinks. Pythons can easily handle something twice the size you'd feed a similar-size colubrid.

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
You guys are so right. My carpets have really surprised me with the prey sizes they can take down. When I got my first carpet he was already a yearling but only 85g when he arrived. I started him on (10-19g) rat fuzzys. He ate these for his first (3) feedings. I was talking to the breeder one day and he told me the critter could easily take a jumbo mouse even though he was only about 120g. I thought to myself NO WAY! But, he's a very well respected breeder who's produced thousands of carpets and other snakes, so I decided to give it a go. The snake didn't flinch one bit and made quick work of the jumbo mouse. On another occasion my 1600g male bull snake ate his chick but refused his medium rat. He's finicky and will only eat a rat after he has eaten a chick. If I offer the rat first he won't touch it. And he seems to prefer small rats over medium rats. This was one of those times he wouldn't take his medium. My coastal was 875g at the time and was on small rats. I decided to offer the refused medium to the coastal and he smashed it effortlessly. He's been on mediums every since. He's about 1200g now and I have no doubt that he could handle a large rat but I'll hold back on those for now. My 385g female jungle was eating (35-49g) rat weaners. I'm travelling on vacation next week and it'll be two weeks until she eats again so I decided to give her a 60g small rat which was her largest meal so far. She inhaled that thing and was still looking for more. I won't push the envelope too far, I've seen some people feed their carpets until they look like they've swallowed a football, but I've learned not to underestimate these guys.
@ Blaze- finish off the pinkys and give that beast some real food .

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
Sad to say first feeding attempt yesterday failed. Zero interest in the pinkie. Didn't even look towards me wiggling it. Tried leaving it in her cage overnight on the perch but it's still there.

Re: My house now has not hardwood or tile but CARPET!!
No worries Blaze. I'm sure she'll come around quickly. Keep trying to feed her at night and serve the prey item at about 100F. I still think the mice pinks are too small. They really should have prey with fur and more developed bone structure.

Yeah I messed that one up, the breeder just told me rat pink. That was my bad. Once I get her eating i'll offer the mice every other day to go through the few I have the up her prey size.

Gorgeous! Love your set up too.
I got a 94% IJ Jag a little while ago. Love the little bugger even though she bites a lot haha. I haven't seen any in my area so just shipped one to me from Ontario. I plan on doing a bioactive viv for mine once I get it built.
