check out jstor, search genus (or species) Varanus sp., keywords conservation, ecology, habitat, etc.
I relied on Jstor almost exclusively for finding papers to support my own projects, along with google scholar. Also, if you find one paper you like, look in the citations of THAT paper to find more authors/topics that deal with similar issues.
