Re: PLEASE Help !

does anyone know what causes prolapses? i feel like its my fault, is it switching from frozen/thawed to live back to frozen/thawed? or humidity variations,..or stress from unknown causes... my two corns are doing wonderful.. but my bp is just going down hill after her first prolapse, and her second prolapse is making her weak and thin... she even smells bad....

Re: PLEASE Help !

I feel bad for you and your little snake. I really am crossing my fingers for her, hope you guys get everything sorted and she survives. I've not seen this kind of thing before, this is a first for me! Keep us all posted. I doubt it is your fault though. You're doing your very best, don't kick yourself.

I'm not 100% on snakes BUT if it's the same as humans....

Old age, childbirth, deterioration of surrounding muscles, constipation, diarrhea, constant straining.....

So maybe your snake had a GI issue from ingesting substrate. How were it's bowel movements?

Now that I remembered things I didn't want to picture ever again...back to dinner...

EDIT: After re-reading, a month of not eating? Maybe because of a bowel obstruction it couldn't pass resulting in the straining that finally made it pop.

Re: PLEASE Help !

So the snake is pushing so hard it will not stay in, the vet stitched her up again and now i have to give her Baytril injectables once a day every 3 days for 3 weeks.... he said try to feed her as much as i can, shes down to 70 grams... her first vet visit she was in the 90's so shes loosing weight fast!, but she refuses to eat from me. both live and frozen. she even pushed passed her stitches and her prolapse is kinda showing but kinda held in by the stitches.... she has the opposite of constipated she pushed everything out so her feces isn't backed up thank god, but she is straining herself, her skin isn't looking good... i hope all these vet visits will save her because I've spent all my money on her...

Re: PLEASE Help !

i have no substrate in her cage its paper towels..
her last poop was slimy and everywhere, kinda white and yellow, she ate 2 weeks ago, so when she went poop i think she strained herself into another prolapse...

Re: PLEASE Help !

Unfortunately without knowing the cause it's going to be hard to keep sewing her up and hoping. Sounds like it just won't stop which is really weird.

I'd start preparing yourself that she may not live for very much longer.

Re: PLEASE Help !

Can you get a second opinion from another vet?

Re: PLEASE Help !

If you have to wait any time at all I would put the snake down. It has to be in a lot of pain and its a shame to just leave it and let it suffer while you figure out a way to afford to take it to the vet.

This ^^^ It is a sad part of owning any animal that sometimes we have to make hard decisions and perform unpleasant actions.

Sorry that you are going through this
