Well the Black throat wasn't interested in posing for me, so I bugged the white throat for an update lol
he's still growing at a good rate, and is adamant on destroying everything in the enclosure daily lol.
I'd say he's just over 3' in length, another 1.5' to go. then pack on the girth.

Just an update, getting big, eating non stop. Pictures make him look small, but he's getting there.
Nice fat tail, and comparison to my hand. (that is shed on his back) Enjoy.

Hi, as far as I`m aware, there are only 3 subspecies currently recognised; V. a. albigularis, V. a. angolensis and V. a. microstictus. If you have info to the contrary I`d be interested in seeing it. Thanks!

Angolensis? Never heard of that one, I know albigularis, microstictus, and ionidesi.

You can check out the currently recognised species of the Varanidae at the following website: reptile-database.org
Ionidesi is not a recognised subspecies as I said, it can get very confusing at times (I think they do it deliberately)! 
One point for the OP: they do NOT grow at 7 inches per month, or even close, I`m guessing you`re guessing!? I`ve even heard claims of 12inches in a month before today (nonesense)!

Varanus albigularis | The Reptile Database
The database lists ionidesi. It lists angolensis too, interesting. I had never heard of that one.

Yes just a guesstimate. I was doing division based on growth for a period of 6 months, and he grew 27" give or take.

Agreed, when I say "micro" I'm referring to microstictus. The ionidesi is a grey area, Considered an albigularis in the trade, though I'm not certain as far as legality and correct documentation goes.

Who knows, this time tomorrow "they" may decide ionidesi is a valid subspecies, or even a separate one in it`s own sub-genus!

Though this article doesnt touch on albigularis changes specifically, I thought you guys might find this article interesting regarding taxonomy anyway. Its goes over the updates of new species designations since the Bohme report to CITES in 2002.
