I noticed yesterday when I fed the mediums aren't leaving a food bump like they used to so ill be upping the size again soon. Same thing with my BCI and she's supposed to be a 2011 but she may actually be a 2010.

My critters are at a point they're starting to cost some serious money to feed. I need rabbits! Lol
Thanks, he's been with me since 2010 I'm pretty sure he's a 2009 though and I never personally sexed him. We got him from a pet shop (for shame I know) and he came to me branded a 'male' Since I'm really not interested in breeding them I let it go, He's probably around 4ft and very thick. I make sure he gets exercise as silly as that sounds.

It's interesting that Stephen said his retic was traumatized by a large meal. I didn't realize they could retain that experience in their "memory" and have it effect them in the future.

He struck at the rat and missed, smashing his face on the door of his viv. The angle that he hit the door pulled his facial skin down and over his teeth, they then went through his face and pulled down putting pressure on the rest of his face/eye. It took me an hour and Kimberlys help to fix the problem, and almost 15 minutes of me pulling at his face to get the last few teeth out. anything bigger then a small rat freaks him out and he hid his head like a bp, or fights for his life.

Don't let a snake fool you. Most are smarter than what you think.

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?

5 foot long jungle/carpet python mix, on rats...she's normal to thick for a carpet, but is not that impressive in size really.

4.25 foot ball python (male, 11 years old) who is pretty thick and large headed.
He eats a large rat maybe every six weeks or so. He's pretty stationary and only comes out once in a while looking for food. He was abused and overfed (force fed) so i let him choose when he wants to eat.

Everyone else is still pretty young, or small, except the other 4 food balls lol

Sounds like you guys have some great animals. It also seems like it is not as expensive as I would have thought to keep these big guys fed.

It depends where you get your feeders. I was paying 6-8$ a pound for feeder rabbits for a long time, I just recently found a vendor who sells them 10$ regardless of size so now its reasonable. A really big constrictor can eat 1-2 10-15lb rabbits a meal, mind you that will tide him off for a while, but thats still a hefty meal ticket.

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?

^^ Yep. And when you have animals that grow quick, their food can become pretty expensive pretty quick, especially considering you're feeding more often. Once they get to a certain age, you can give them a nice big meal but a lot less often. In the past few months my burms have gone from eating one small adult rat every week to 2 jumbos or 3 large rats every 10-14 days. I hope to have them on rabbits soon. Not only is it more cost effective, but it's a better source of food for them and they shouldn't need to eat as frequently. At least...I hope lol

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?

The biggest snake I have is not a Python at all but a Boa. The biggest Python I have is an 8' yellow Macklot's Python by the name of GI Jane. My Burms are still small but they will pass them all up soon enough.

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?

My largest python in collection is 2 feet long lol! Haha I have one ball python. I do plan to get an olive python next spring if all goes well. I met the pair when I picked up my boa and fell in love. What amazing animals and so beautiful!

Largest snakes in my collection are 2 female cornsnakes who are around the 5 foot mark lol!

My biggest is my 8-8.5ft ij carpet. She eats an appropriate sized rodent(or rodents) every 2-3 weeks.

The Reticulated Python is the longest snake in the world with an adult size exceeding 22 feet. People do keep these snakes in their personal collections. It is generally recommend 1 person per 8 feet of snake when handling.

A couple of the larger snakes that can be handled by one person are Red Tail Boas, and Carpet Pythons.

My Irian Jaya Carpet Python is still young, about 2.5 years old, and is probably close to 4 feet. Longest snake I own...

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?

I've got three ball pythons... The largest is my 'big girl' Valentine, 4'1'' and still growing.

She was 3'2'' this past april 19th. so... she grew a foot or so in 6 months. For the past three months she has been off-feed (I still offer food).

She's such a monster, and she's only about 2 years and a few months old. How old do ball pythons get when they stop putting on significant length? lol
