Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
Quoting directly from the video poster...
"This was taken to demonstrate that a false water cobra will eat anything!"
"Lowriderchevy7....its not as bad as one may think...lind of a high dollar hot dog and since fresh fish is part of their regular diet that would not prove the same point. I have not fed any of my FWC's anything abnormal since and probably never will."
And from a person commenting on the video...
"All you whiny asses shut up! I have fed my snakes hot dogs for years and it has had no ill effects on them! As a matter of fact my vet has told me i have some of the healthiest reptiles he has ever seen! So shut up!"
And a different one >.< This one just irks me.
"ima get one and feed it pizza"

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
Ugh.
These kind of threads make me slowly hate humans more and more.
Guess I just need to buy up all the snakes so they're fed properly.

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
That can not be good for the snake. The salt content alone would be potentially lethal ,and there is no source of calcium or other nutrients required for the snake to live a healthy life. My Burm rescue was stuck on a diet of raw chicken breast for a long time. While the protien content was good that was all . I am not an snake dietition by any means but I would not recomend this for a diet , and I love hotdogs lol.

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
Let me throw my $0.02 in here as someone with a degree involving nutrition.
Now, I cannot pretend to be an expert on snake nutritional needs, but the salt content alone in that hot dog I *guarantee* is slowly killing that snake. Even one on a rare occasion could cause long term issues. While we all need sodium, snakes included, these levels of sodium could easily ruin a snakes kidneys and dehydrate it rather quickly. The human thirst response is bad enough, im sure a snakes is bad enough where they wouldn't even know.
99% of you on this forum are dehydrated and don't even know it, I cant imagine how that poor snake feels

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
If you look at the color of your urine, that's a big clue to your hydration level.

That too, Kingsnake. Hooray for general (or what should be general...) knowledge! Or rather having a Pediatrics ICU nurse as your mother.

Yes and no.
The color of your urine is actually the concentration of solutes, uroblin, and how diluted your urine actually is.
I drink nearly 2 gallons of water per day (i know, it sucks) but my urine is almost always yellow. Why? Because I eat an extremely high amount of potassium and sodium (in proper ratios) through my diet, as well as a large amount of nutrients from tons of vegetables, fruits, and red meat.
All that said, I am hardly dehydrated. Actually, "clear" urine means you would be overhydrated *or* severely lacking in a lot of necessary nutrients (like most people)

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
I think it's funny that it actually took it, but a snake that eats junk food?!?!? It's bad enough for us let alone their little systems.

You don't have to agree, but it's basic urology. What are you using to back up your facts? I have spent the last 6 years studying the human anatomy with a focus on Kinesiology. My thesis was a 18 month study on dehydration in ultra-endurance athletes (specifically ultramarathon and triathletes).
I hate to sound "snobbish" but Im sure I know more than you do about hydration.
In other news, You probably know a lot more about other fields than I do.
Go ahead and disagree, doesn't make you any less wrong
edit: I should probably clarify - I do mean clear clear.. as in water clear.

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
Hydration being one of the main things the military crams down your throat you learn a trick or two, I'm sure you know a lot about this subject and I'm not trying to discount your experience at all, I hope I don't come across that way but clear urine means were hydrating enough and darker urine means you need more water.... when your in full uniform with gear and cover, you don't want to take chances on becoming a heat casuality. You pay attention.

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
Are we really talking about urine?
Who is right and who is wrong is completely irreverent, we all have different colors, flavors, and habits with our urine. I for one keep an empty paint can here next to me by my mini fridge, microwave cart, trash can, and overhead pull out T.V. tray. I like to emulate my snakes in that I try to conserve as much energy as possible.(Zombie apocalypse or something, I don't know.)
I'm also a big water conservationist, so when it's time to assert myself as the dominate male of this dwelling and mark my territory I just lean over and get the paint can. I empty it before bed religiously. (I'm not disgusting, I never forget.) One flush, 1 fish - that's my motto. Sometimes it's yellow, or redish...Actually it's more like a terracotta...I think it's been clear a handful of times. Once it even came out carbonated...I tried to pass it off as soda, but when you eat a lot of broccoli and asparagus it's kind of...
Hey guys did you know there is a person on CraigsList who is selling a snake that eats farkin' hotdogs???

Re: This snake eats hotdogs! Say what?
nice reminder of topic, H3h.
Do you happen to know what snake sausages look like? I haven't bothered to look them up, but just for curiosities sake, what would one look like, to compare it to a regular hot dog?
