This is a fact: Tarantulas always prefer to crawl up. I will put my hand in front of them, then depending on who it is and if i feel safe enough, nudge their back legs or abdomen with my finger or a utensil, and they crawl right on.

The only one i just "scoop up" is my rose hair, who doesn't care either way : )

I generally place my hand in front and do gentle nudges, I've "scooped up" once and (s)he didn't seem to mind :P

I know this website really helps to know what you're looking for. American Tarantula Society Discussion Board • View topic - Sexing a tarantula It's always better and easier to sexe them when they are about 2 inches in legspan though. If you have a good microscope though and know what you're looking for, you can most likely sexe him/her now.
