Re: Here I am again...
Dawwww I went to look at them and picked a little male out! They want to keep them for a couple weeks to make sure they're eating and adjusting well and all so right now I have him on hold. I didn't have to put a down payment down or anything so I can still back out whenever if I don't like something. They said that the eyes bulging out is pretty normal for babies that small and that their rainbows had it too when they were babies.
Apparently their parents were both nice reds so he should grow up to be pretty! He wasn't the brightest of the 3, but I want a male and the brightest one was a female. Plus I don't care about the color as much as I care about the iridescence
Here he is!

All right, sounds like my concerns were ill-founded, I just didn't remember my little guy looking like that and know that bulging eyes can be a sign for concern.

I just ordered a BRB from Dave... AMAZING animals, from a great breeder.
Edit: I see you already got him. That's what I get for not reading the whole thread!

Well I have him on hold. But I haven't paid or anything yet. They just got them yesterday, so they want to keep them for a couple weeks first to make sure they're healthy and eating well.
I trust these guys, they have a good reputation around here and I know they care about their animals. But I still have time to back out if I find something wrong. I'm gonna be doing a lot of research before I take him home

I appreciate you pointing it out! I did ask about it. Since they are keeping them for a bit before they sell them, I'm sure they'll find out if something is wrong with them. And they keep them in the right conditions, so if it's a nutrition/dehydration issue, they should start getting better before they even start selling them.
And they're not the kind of pet store that wants nothing to do with you after you take an animal home.
Plus I have time to do a lot of research before I take him home.

First off, congratulations on your new selection!
Second, the store owners are correct: the bug-eye effect is fairly common on a baby Brazilian.

Third, you made a good choice if you want iridescence. It shows up much better on darker snakes.

Price is going to be quite a bit less than the pet store too.

find shows and find a local (or even nationwide) FB herp group and ask around. I hate going to pet stores for pets unless their specialty stores.

Finally, I would respectfully disagree on these two points (although the poster is usually spot-on).
For price, the average baby Brazilian goes for $150-200. You can find as low as $100, representing lower-end animals at shows; and as high as $400, representing top picks from high-end litters of top breeders. But $150 is a pretty normal price.
For shows, I feel you run a huge risk ever buying from a show, as with so many animals and dealers and owners in one small location, you are bound to have at least some disease, obvious or not. In other words, any price break is offset by an increased disease risk. Plus, I oddly rarely find top rainbows at shows. You are better off going to a private breeder or specialty shop that practices active quarantine (which is rare, so be sure to check!).
Again, congrats on a nice selection.

Re: Here I am again...
Thank you! I can't wait to bring him home!
I did some research on the bug-eye thing and could not find anything. But I am going to find a herp vet around here and ask.
