Re: "Much to do about nothing", Racks versus snakes'wellness

These are the 2 Animal Plastics racks I currently use, plus the Boaphile and I will soon get a third. Those snakes that need more humidity, I take care of that by moving the water dish closer to the heat source. These racks have worked well for me and I wouldn't do it any other way.

Black Betty, on the other hand, is in a 6' Neodesha enclosure as she needs more room due to her size. She is an unusually large dumeril's.

Re: "Much to do about nothing", Racks versus snakes'wellness

I've thought about racks for my smaller babies, but I think I would rather just make my own at this point. Not only because it's cheaper but because I can customize it to fit my animal's needs and still make it simple and easy for human use lol.

I've heard alot of people using those huge Christmas totes for larger animals. I'm thinking about picking a couple up for my 2 dumerils boas, but the fact that it's colored is what makes me hesitant. I do not like not being able to glance in their homes without disturbing them. I have my oldest bp in a colored tub and I hate that I cannot see into his home. I don't think he minds though since he's always hiding. (it was a perfectly good free tub so I put it to use lol)

I didn't think about them not being able to see out.....never really noticed mine looking out. Hmmm....I'm going to start watching the dumerils girls to see if they like to look out. I may have to can the Christmas tote idea.....

those tubs in the rack that I posted are massive, the one on the bottom is 44x18, the medium is 36ishx18 and the "small" is 27x18, or something like that. All clear. They were $20 and $11 from Target and $7 from walmart (or something like that, you can probably find them all at walmart on a given day). I can get you exact measurements and volume if you want.

Re: "Much to do about nothing", Racks versus snakes'wellness

Thanks all of U for partecipating to the discussion.

INFERNALIS : I love Ur choise of the Species U keep. only a mystere : how did U find that plenty of space in N.Y.?

Now, please forgive me if i m full sincere : I don't like glass : to hard to keep cleaned; too much heat dispersion with the tropical species (that's not Ur case), hard to mantain the selected humidity (it comes too moist or too dry), but the most is that i believe the snakes cannot feel sure with glasses at every wall, and they will stay almost all the time into their hiding-boxes. But, of course, all those change from keeper to keeper.

At last : U gave me the opportunity to make a proposal :

everyone of Us could find and keep/breed one of the so called 'lesser' species (loots of them ignored from the Market); we could learn a lot and , at the same time, i think it could turn a very worthy choice.

nice week-end
