I raise the concern from a want for better publicity for us as keepers, the health and wellbeing of the snakes and of course not wanting to find one of my forum friends has died in a totally unnecessary way.

Very well said, i cant help but agree with you statement. I will continue to practice it, but keep in mind they dont coil even once just sit firmly around my sholders and in both hands, i believe that is perfectly safe but i see where your coming from if there coiled around your neck and your not supporting them with your hands, i dont do that... Shes to big for that anyways.

Re: Im new
THere is absolutely NO NEED for a coil round the neck - any decent martial artist can put you out with one or two fingers. It is a myth that you need a full strangle hold to put someone out - the reason a full hold is used in MMA fights is mainly to hold the opponent still whislt also applying pressure to the correct place on the neck.
I was "put out" by my sensei as part of my training - i barely felt him touch me before everything went black.

Nope, you totally missed the point, the snake doesnt need a coil to put you out, there is just nomreason whatsoever to take the risk of letting the snake ANYWHERE near your head/neck. Even draped loosely over your shoulders it takes very little movement for the snake to be in a position to do the business.

Re: Im new
Lets put it this way. You may be able to uncoil a snake when its not pissed off, but you WILL FAIL at overpowering a large angry snake if its manages to get 1 coil around your neck. Even if its nice a mellow, it doesn't take much to make someone pass out from lack of blood to the brain.

Nerve pressure points will put you out a LOT quicker than the old "sleeper hold" that cuts off the carotid. If you watch MMA then you will see that at times they get the "choke" hold and the opponent will carry on fighting for a while to escape - this is a carotid choke. Other times they lock in and the opponent is ko'd almost immediately this is a nerve pressure "choke".
