Re: tired of the harrassment!
My all time fave is when a house guest opens the freezer for the first time. Hundreds and hundreds of frozen mice staring back out.
Or that time when someone grabbed this shedds spread crock (plastic bowl) and she opened it, there was lettuce in it crawling with garden slugs.

Re: tired of the harrassment!
my cellar is my rep room. its tanked out and secure against flooding so its secure for the 2 BPs i keep down there in a locked viv.
Ive just moved nextdoor to a very old very good friend whose wiew of snakes is possitively phobic (He once sprinted out of my house because of a cornsnake hatchling.).
He has no idea that the cellar is even a useable room.

Re: tired of the harrassment!
I used my very first "official" paycheck to buy my first snake, a grey ratsnake. I took it home, set it up, dropped a live mouse in there ( didn't know better at the time,) and then left for 12 hours to avoid parental repercussions. Came home to malicious stares but a good amount of acquiescence ( on my mother's part, my father was furious) and it was all good...sorta. She still didn't like the new boa I got shortly after because she finally found the courage to look at her and say " awww..." and then nearly got tagged haha. 10 years later I stop buy their place after every expo to show them new pets or terrorize them with frozen feeders. My parents still talk about my grey rat (no longer around) with a strange sort of fondness.
My fiance went from never having seen a reptile up close to having one, feeding it things she hated being near, dropping $1000 on vet care to save it's life and then learning how to deal with the disgusting that comes with feeding f/t rodents to lizards :P
Some people will come around and tolerate reptiles, some will warm up to reptiles and some will fall in love with reptiles. Sometimes it just takes a while and some diligence on our parts. Those people with irrational fears can be brought around, you just have to chip away at them. Don't be angry. Be the teacher. Cheers!

Re: tired of the harrassment!
My X girlfriend got me a tarantula for our anniversary, I had it on my shoulder while i was doing my homework (it was always restless in its terrarium but loved to be on my arm (by love i mean it calmed down) the thing even ate in my hands which was pretty cool. Anyway one day a friend came over and saw it, she screamed and smashed it with her purse then bolted. After calming her down I asked her why she killed it and she said "it was going to eat you, I saw it" When fear takes over, the mind works in mysterious irrational ways

Re: tired of the harrassment!
I have pictures of my husbands snakes hanging in my cube and people just give me looks over them. One woman even told me 'your snakes freak me out'....as if that would make me take the pictures down. I even had my boss tell me she'd never come visit my house because of the snakes, of course my response was 'why would I invite you?'
If people are giving you crap, they clearly are narrow minded, let it go. It's not worth carrying that with you. I don't care what they think of me because we have snakes in the house.
Though I have discovered that most people assume that if you have snakes you let them roam free as you would a cat or a dog. I did have to explain to my boss that you don't do that with snakes. It makes about the same sense as letting your fish roam freely. (it will die)
Ah well, I don't think you are weird.

Re: tired of the harrassment!
I used to be one of those people that didn't like reptiles at all. Last year for the first time I held a snake (a Ball Python) so my husband wouldn't get one up on me on our honeymoon. I fell in love. As soon as we got back home I went and bought one. Now I'm addicted. I love messing with the women I work with about snakes. They think I'm crazy. We haven't had but a couple of visitors since we got our snakes HEHE! People that drink sometimes say that something is messing with their drinking time. Well I say to much company is messing with my snake time.

Re: tired of the harrassment!
If you want to have a fun time watching people freak out, start breeding tokay geckos. DAMN is the only thing I can say, they freak out and screaming and fly across the room at anyone when guarding eggs lol, crazy bite too:P
