Nicaraguan Boa. They are on the smaller end. 4-6 feet and not as heavily bodied.

Re: which new snake??

Morelia is the genus name for carpet pythons. Morelia spilota designates a carpet python species: diamonds are Morelia spilota spilota, jungles are Morelia spilota cheyneii, coastals are Morelia spilota mcdowelli, and Irian Jayas are Morelia spilota harrissoni or Morelia spilota variegata, depending on the sub-locality.
There are also Boelen's python (Morelia boeleni), Green tree python (Morelia viridis), rough-scaled python (Morelia carinata), and the scrub pythons (Morelia amethystina species). Moluccan, Aru, Amethystine, Biak, are all localities of scrubs with their own species names, which escape me right now..lol. Sorry, I'm a bit of a Morelia addict...lmao!

I think I got them all...did I miss any Morelia, guys?

Re: which new snake??

Lol, yeah it is a rather large genus. Not as large as the red-tailed boa genus though. But Morelia definitely contains a nice variety of species. They all have the typical large nasal heat sensing pits though. In fact, once you recognize that they belong to the same genus, you can see a lot of similarities between them all.

Inland Carpet (Morelia s. metcalfei), Southwestern Carpet (Morelia spilota imbricata), Isle of St. Francis Carpet (Morelia spilota imbricata), Northwestern Carpet (Morelia spilota variegata), and this doesn't count the three kind of carpet found in New Guinea.
You asked. lol Reptile magazine May 1999 had a article by Dave and Tracy Barker called A Capestry of Carpet Pythons. It has a bunch i never heard of.

Re: which new snake??

We have just had a name change a while ago for the Australian scrubs Kim and they are now known as Morelia Kinghorni, people still refer to them amethystina but the name has changed.

PS. Sorry for the technicallities LOL

Re: which new snake??

Haha i dont think that the scientific name change will mean anything in that regard as a scrubby is a scrubby LOL.
