Re: seashepherd.org

The only saving grace in my mind is that nature will take it's world back and rebalance the planet. Throughout history before each ice age there has been an imbalance in the chemicals in the atmosphere (as shown by ice samples taken from drilling through the ice pack).

Nature will cause "disasters" which will allow the world to heal and all we can hope is that as nature lovers some how we survive to help take care of the planet afterwards.

Unfortunately for the sake of the planet a lot of human life/industry will have to disappear.

The situation in the Gulf is hard for me to even talk about.

imo your not being cynical mate your being realistic.i too think we are past the point of no return.

i too would love to live off the land and go back to transportation by horses.the truth of it is not many folk would give up their creature comforts and lazy *** exsistence.

so i really do think its going to end up like a mad max sci fi film at some point.governments will end up being hardline dictatorships who rule with an iron fist.the world is overpopulated at the minute.that is only going to get worse and with it poulution, etc, etc.

i'm a bit of a hypocrite for what im about to say (as i have 4 children) but i feel unless we go down the road china has took re child birth then things will just keep on expanding to the point the planet cant support anymore.

as far as i know in china your allowed to have 1 child.if you want anymore then by law you have to proove you can look after and finacially support that child till adluthood.it is a hard and contreversial way of doing things for the parents but imo it makes perfect sense.
cheers shaun

Re: seashepherd.org

I think the planet would need a millennium to correct the damage from the last 200 years.

But we just keep on inflicting more damage, again and again.

Just look at what the BP oil disaster is doing to the gulf of Mexico, I refuse to call that a spill, since a spill by definition is a known quantity and no one really knows when this gusher is going to stop spewing garbage into the water.

Nuclear detonations leave radioactivity that lingers forever, yet some countries still test bombs.

Trains crash pulling tankers full of chemicals, governments create "bio weapons" and offshore rigs keep on drilling.

Just the other day my little son Brendan (11) asked me about the sun going supernova, I told him that man will kill the planet long before the sun does.

Re: seashepherd.org

theres all off what you just listed wayne.

then theres fanatical countrys like iran making nuclear missles for the first time.

theres also talk of building more nuclear power plants in the uk as its clean and efficiant way of creating power.its also a very efficiant way of creating waste that remains very dangerous for hundreds of years.chernobyl being one example of what can happen.i also thought the russians not letting on it had happened until the swiss government detected a massive radioactive cloud floating about was a bit nuts.

at least with groups of folk like the sea shepard going around doing what they can theres still hope.the question is do we have enough time to rectify some of these larger problems ?

ironically only time will tell...!!
cheers shaun

Re: seashepherd.org

The earth has more than 10 times a sustainable population of humans, and that's not going to change until the inevitable resource wars (pro tip: they've already begun.) and famine take its toll on the population.

Re: seashepherd.org

when famine sets in i'll resort to eating crickets with my leopard gecko's, great source of protein.
