Re: Maurus boa
Ah I thought it was a Columbian. Nice snakes but I personally don't like the duller, reduced pattern as much as the brilliant brazillians..
Bagus, what about the Peruvian? I know very little about rainbow boas so I am not correcting just asking.

Re: Maurus boa
I think the columbians are very neat. I've had the pleasure of working with a couple in the past and they are neat little boas.

Re: Maurus boa
There is also a Peruvian Rainbow boa. I have one, and it is just as brilliant, if not more so, than the Brazilian. I guess that would make 5 subspecies of rainbow boa?

Re: Maurus boa
There are 12 subspecies yet known of rainbow boa. most of them differ just because of location. some are just slightly different. like the peruvian and rainbow boas are really close in color but have more bold dark lines that surround the colors.

Re: Maurus boa
Yes but unless it's been actually identified as a seperate subspecies with a latin name then you're just renaming an already known subspecies.

Re: Maurus boa
Ya i know im just replying to the post willow put up saying there are 5 subspecies of rainbow boa. I was just saying there are 12 that science says are all different species. so yes to your question there are 12 subspecies that have been identified by science. But most of them really don't look a lot a like especially as babies they look almost the same but as they get to adults they get really different looking most of the time.

Re: Maurus boa
Here is a picture of Picasso, my Peruvian rainbow boa. He looks almost identical to the Brazilians, just a tad more orange. Supposedly the Peruvians stay a bit brighter than most Brazilians as adults, but that is just what the breeder Ben Seigel told me.

Re: Maurus boa
Yes from what i have read the brazilians turn a little darker red as they get older and the peruvians stay between the columbians and the brazilians. I think my next snake will be a peruvian.
