I'm so jealous I couldn't start my collection just a few years earlier...

Re: ball price

OK, Mykee, if the sky is falling, what's your sale price on one of those piebalds?

Re: ball price

Even if the sky WAS falling I know Mykee wouldn't be selling any of them

Meh they can pack it up... I'll reap the benefits in a couple years. The recession is keeping me from trying to produce many, or any at all, in the next year. I can just raise my current girls up in the mean time.

Darn! Here I was thinking this is my big chance (esp. since I don't believe the sky is falling, just sagging a bit for awhile).

why not just breed like crazy and stockpile. then when the time comes you will have snakes of all types and sizes to sell. that way you don't have to choose between selling or proving out a gene.

Re: ball price

As for the market "sagging", I doubt it will even see an increase again. A stabilization is more likely than anything.
As for producing and "stockpiling", if you've got the room to house, money to feed, and time to clean and water, go ahead. Sounds a lot like "breeding" to me...

Re: ball price

yes mykee breeding is what i meant. and the way i figure it food isn't a problem if you breed your own rats and mice. and food for them is cheep. you will still be able to sell some snakes even in a down market so that will more than pay for the rodent food. and the watering and feeding of the snakes is more fun for me than anything. it's relaxing. i will just sit and watch my snake move around at night for like and hour cuz it is just relaxing. the housing part isn't as simple, but if you can build your own racks then it shouldn't be too bad.

Re: ball price

Breeding your own rats when you have a decent-sized collection is the ONLY way to do it. Assuming you don't feed dog food....
The day I don't look forward to cleaning my rat racks or trying to dislodge dried urates from my snakes bins is the day I sell off my collection and find a new hobby.

Re: ball price

I hate cleaning crap up! I like my snakes though so the trade-off is worth it to me Besides it's gives me a little one on one time with them.
