ya you are right snakeman87 as for geting them to realese I find that if you put the open mouth under a runing faucet of cold water the instincts to servive kick,s in and they let go.
for shedind problems I let them soak and then burryng them onder a small pile of damp towels when they climb out the skin should stay on the towels

P.S it may be the first bite but I guarantee you not the last.LOL

Ouch, sorry to hear that but the good thing is that, now at least you know how it feels to get bit by him/her. J/K But good luck with the shed.

Thanks everyone! It dosen't hurt alot (even if it look like) cause she's still small. Not sure I'ld like to see how it is with a 6ft adult!

And the shed is all gone now, the bite pics is when I got her as a freach wc. Now she in great shape!

Watch out, Amazons are addictive...I'm up to 4 now
All of mine are wc and all had a crappy shed right after I got them.
Skin kept getting stuck around their eyes.
What I find works best is just putting them in a damp pillowcase for about three hours, throwing the case back ino the enclosure to stay warm. The shed ends up as a damp lil ball in the bottom of the pillowcase and you end up with one slick looking ammie without any manual removal of shed.
Now that all my ammies have been vet checked, dewormed and have begun eating like champs, my mission is to hopefully start a captive breeding program within the next two years so that none of us have to buy wc again!

Plenty of Captive breeders out there. You can always tell the captive bred one cuz they charge like 5 times what a w/c is. I normally just give them a bath like I do with any other snake. The water defuses their heat pits so they are less likely to strike.
Also I really don't recomend "pinning" an ammie. Their necks are very fragile and are easily broken. If you don't want to get bit, wear a rubber dishwashing glove, get it wet so it cools off, and quickly grab your Ammie behind the head. You now have total control over them. Then your free to massage off the poor shed.
