Very nice pictures. Lucky you to go there...
Just one thing i noticed: the Water monitor looks more like a Gouldii to me, but perhaps that's the common name for it there. Am i right?

Hey guys! Thanks for all the comments! I felt completely lucky to go there, and it completely seemed like I was dreaming. It really is the nicest group of people I've ever met!

How did I get to go? I e-mailed the zoo about whether or not they had a volunteer program, and they sent me the forms to fill out. Once I'd filled out the forms and sent them in, they had to contact my references and everything to be able to "accept" me... (At first I wondered if they were crazy for going through such a process for FREE help, but when I got there, it was clear that they only wanted people that were really serious about it and where there for the ANIMALS... not for like... "When do I get to meet Steve!" and such...)

After I got the news I was accepted it was just a matter of saving up. I had to pay to get there and stay there and eat there and EVERYthing... It wasn't TOO bad, except I have a huge credit card bill that I'm paying off right now. The flight is insanely expensive AND long. Except it was pretty cool on Japan Airlines, they have little TV screens on the back of the seat in front of you, and you can CHOOSE what movie you want to watch! And there's games, and everything. You can even connect to a camera that looks underneath the plane, so you can see what you're flying over.

JimmyDavid, I know there's different kinds of water monitor but that's just about it, lol! I'm not sure what type that was cuz I didn't even know it was there till the day I went around to get pictures... I didn't really have anything to do with him, although I'm pretty sure its name started with an "M" ... make any sense to any one??

I AM working on a website actually... it's not going to be anything fancy cuz I get too frustrated and impatient... but I have to go through the pictures and fix them up cuz some you'd have to turn your head sideways to look at. I'll let you all know when it's finished!!!

Daan --> Oh don't worry, I 'll let you know! I've also made a friend there who's told me I can stay with her whenever I want to go back... WOOHOO!

OH AND ... to those of you who gave me your address for a postcard... I HAVE POSTCARDS FOR YOU! I swear!!! I just was in the middle of nowhere and couldn't get any stamps to send them out!! I'll send them from here... when I get more money... :\ But still I tried!

Thanks again for looking! I'm glad to be able to share my experience with you guys

Kate

I just found another really cool picture...

For anyone who's watched "Croc Hunter Diaries" ... you might recognize the guy in this picture. This is Richard, on the episode today he was getting married (at the zoo nonetheless!!).

I think this was his first time feeding Acco!!

Wow! That's a huge croc in that last pic.

I'm so envious! But now that I know they accept volunteers I'm pumped My girlfriend's company has offices in Australia, and she can do an exchange there for three months or more. I told her I was all for it, since I'd like to move there eventually anyway

Did you get out to tour the outback at all too?

Great Pics!
I have been saving for a trip there myself. Can anyone volunteer at the zoo or was it part of some schooling? I was thinking about going to guelph for zoology/herpitology so the trip would fit in well. My dream is to become the croc hunters side kick LOL

Hey reptiguy, It wasn't any schooling or anything.. just me wanting to do it! Although I've also applied to Guelph (for Wildlife Biology) so it does tie in nicely.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! !!
