how can people do something like this? it makes me sick to my stomach. i once had a friend who had a gerbil.. he never messed with gerbil, so one day he stuck his hand in there and gerbil bit him. so he let gerbil go in his house for his cat to catch.. a week later he thought gerbil was dead and had a party at his house.. me and my cousin cought gerbil in the bathroom and gave it to cousins daughter.. gerbil is happy and extremely loving now.

Sounds like this 19 year old...needs some lessons in responsibility. Suggest to the Mom that she confiscate the Cham and then put kick him out of the house. When he comes home to find all his belongings out on the lawn...he will have to be responsible P.D.Q. Especially if it's as cold in Calgary as it is in Edmonton right now.

Also mention to the Mom that something similar is likely to happen to her when she is very old and in need of assistance from her child.

it might teach him a lesson, but do you honestly think the mother is going to kick her child out of the house for mistreating a pet chameleon? For all we know, she might be like a lot of other moms who think it's just a "disgusting lizard." But you'd think someone would have the right mind to take care of the situation.

I just don't understand why he would do that instead of just giving it to a pet store or selling it quick or something. if he really wanted to sell it he could make a quick $20 off me that's for sure, he makes $20, I get an awesome pet for cheap, and the thing lives happily.. I wonder if anyone suggested that to him, it has been said in this thread a couple times already, you'd think someone who knows him would think/feel the same way

Good luck, Lowell. I hope you're able to save this one.

Its not looking good. Even the conversation that took place is considered confidential, so I can't simply sick the authorities on the problem without somebody losing their job that shouldn't. I'm hoping that "mom" returns for followup treatment soon and we can get her permission to intervene.

I got the impression that her son has her scared of him and that's why she hasn't been able to do more on her own.

Still trying,

WM

That sucks Lowell. Too bad animal abuse can't be treated like child abuse - where confidentiality dosn't really count.
